As an employee, should anything go wrong at work, you can easily feel isolated and worried that you have little chance of getting the fair deal you feel you are due.
Our specialist employment solicitors can help. Whether you are having difficulty with your employer and feel that you have been treated unfairly, or face changes to your working/employment conditions, or need Employment Tribunal representation, we can help you know your rights and assist you in making the best of your situation.
We aren’t like High Street solicitors’ firms or most ‘claimant’ firms. As a specialist employment law firm we provide a very high quality of advice and attention to detail of the kind you will otherwise only find in the largest and most expensive of law firms.
We are friendly, approachable and will explain the law and your options in plain English. We fight hard on your behalf, but are also very frank about what is worth fighting for and what is not.
We are dedicated to giving our clients an exceptional, personal service.

We are experts in negotiating and advising upon compromise agreements and exit packages. We advise on hundreds every year and know all the tactics and techniques for ensuring that you get the fairest deal available.
If you are being asked to agree a compromise agreement, or wish to try to negotiate one for yourself, our experts will give you robust, independent advice on your options and the maximum that you are able to demand in your particular situation. We have an excellent success rate in improving significantly the amount of money on offer to a departing employee from his/her employer.
Unlike many solicitors’ firms that advise employees, we also advise many employers, large and small, and we are used to working closely with business executives and HR professionals. We therefore know how they operate and how to most effectively negotiate with them on your behalf.
We aim to help you avoid litigation wherever possible. However, where it is necessary, we provide a highly skilled and responsive Employment Tribunal litigation & advocacy service. We have expertise in unfair dismissal, constructive dismissal, whistle-blowing, all types of discrimination, harassment, wages, working time and every other jurisdiction covered by the Employment Tribunals.
Based on Luke Menzies' seasoned experience over many years as a barrister and his involvement in many hundreds of cases, including several multi-millon pound claims, our litigation & advocacy service is of the very highest standard. We offer:
In post-outcome surveys, which ask a wide range of questions about our clients’ satisfaction with our litigation service as a whole, over 90% of all answers to all questions has been a rating of "excellent".

We believe that keeping you aware of how much our work is costing you, and letting you feel that you are in control of cost, is one of the most important aspects of good service.
We are ‘up front’ and open about our fees from the outset. We will keep you regularly updated on how our fees are building up and we are happy to agree to cap them and the amount of work we are doing for you, to help your finances.
We are all senior specialists and experts in our region and in our field. Accordingly, we charge more than ‘High Street’ law firms and other advisory organisations who cannot offer the same level of service and experienced advice. However, we also set our fees to undercut the larger commercial law firms, with whom we compete in terms of quality, specialism and service, by around 30% - that’s up to £100 + VAT less per hour. You are therefore receiving advice of the highest quality in the region for a significantly lower price.
Our invoices are to be paid within 7 days of receipt. We believe that this sensibly manages your ability to pay and our ability to continue with your work, and avoids the embarrassment and difficulties that can arise with unpaid invoices building up during busy periods of legal work.
As an introductory discount, the first 30 minutes of an initial consultation meeting with us is free of charge. However, please be aware that these initial meetings often tend to last from 1 to 1½ hours, given the amount of information that needs to be exchanged and discussed. Taking these factors into account, the total charge for an initial meeting is usually between £100 and £250 + VAT, naturally dependent on the precise time engaged and the fee rate of the solicitor you see.
Please note that we do not offer ‘no win, no fee’, conditional or contingency fees.

We are very grateful to a number of our recent employee clients who have been willing to provide testimonials of the assistance they received from our team:
I was grateful and impressed by the professionalism of Menzies Law and the outcome they negotiated for me. Luke Menzies’ grasp of detail and his determined negotiation skills on my behalf were something of a wake-up call to my employers. I have already recommended Menzies Law to others and will do so again.
Mr W, managing director, Devon
Luke Menzies quickly took control of the highly unfair situation I found myself in. Not only did he successfully turn the tables, he did it in an empathetic and understanding way. He ALWAYS returned calls and messages and inspired confidence when confidence was at a premium. I would not hesitate to recommend him.
Mr H, managing director, Suffolk
Luke Menzies provided me with sensible, commercial, intelligent and pragmatic advice. He took counsel well and his experience of handling large city institutions, together with his occupational skill, meant he provided a quality service. A highly regarded legal firm in London recommended Luke to me and I am pleased to have taken up their suggestion. Menzies Law’s fees are very competitive and attractive for anyone based in London who wishes to obtain high quality advice at a far more reasonable rate than available in the City.
Ms T, senior HR professional, City of London
Luke Menzies supported me expertly through my recent exit from my last employment. Luke's obvious expertise and experience is complimented brilliantly by his pragmatic and forthright approach which provided absolute peace of mind at a difficult time. The outcome achieved was better than anticipated, all down to the expert management of the situation, and for that I am truly grateful.
Mr B, general manager, London
Luke Menzies very ably represented me in an Employment Tribunal claim, obtaining compensation and costs. He is thorough, and very approachable. I recommend him highly.
Dr B, dental surgeon, Gloucestershire
Catherine Mitchell at Menzies Law was extremely helpful in negotiating my job exit terms, and I highly valued her common sense approach, friendliness and attention to detail. I would thoroughly recommend her as a very helpful employment lawyer.
Mrs B, company director, Somerset
Luke Menzies did a great job seeing off a very threatening claim by my former employers which could have greatly harmed the start of my new business. I was very relieved to have him on my side.
Dr M, chiropractor, Derbyshire
I was very pleased with Luke Menzies’ experienced advice and representation of me in a difficult unfair dismissal claim against my former employers. He convincingly won the case and obtained a sizeable amount of compensation for me.
Mr F, health & safety professional, Somerset
I am happy to recommend Menzies Law. They are friendly and knowledgeable and fought hard on my behalf. They are also very ready to frankly advise when it is time to accept what is on offer and not needlessly waste further time or effort. I felt I got a very honest and capable service from them.
Mr M, HR professional, Gloucester
I would like to thank Menzies Law for their excellent work in negotiating on my behalf. I was delighted with the results.
Mr H, engineer, Bristol
I felt very alone when it was just me against the company. One hour with Luke Menzies confirmed my thoughts to be correct and I was not in the wrong. A course of action was agreed and acted upon very quickly. I was kept informed of the progressing status, options and cost at every step of the way. It was my decision to proceed or not, based on the professional advice given. The outcome exceeded my expectations and gave me peace of mind for my future career. I would highly recommend Menzies Law for any employment law related issues.
Mr F, purchasing manager, Bristol
I was referred to Luke Menzies by a friend who is a HR Director. Luke immediately made himself available to provide advice and guidance and this was demonstrated time and again - even when on holidays. Luke is very approachable and gives sound, pragramatic and very professional advice. In such stressful situations it is extremely important that reliance can be placed upon the advice provided and that this advice is on the basis of putting you first. Having an objective viewpoint which supports rather than drags out unnecessary cases is essential as well as ultimately saving the client money.
Overall, Luke provided a first class service and I would highly recommend him.
Mr B, accountant, South Wales
