Apprenticeships

apprenticesWhat do we already know?

In our September 2014 Newsflash Apprenticeships we updated you that new apprenticeship standards published by the Government were to replace all existing apprenticeship frameworks by 2017.

What’s new?

1. From 6 April 2015 an updated Specification of Apprenticeship Standards for England (SASE) comes into effect. This sets out the minimum requirements to be met by all intermediate level, advanced level and higher apprenticeship frameworks in England. Guidance has also been published on meeting the SASE requirements, and the list of occupations approved for the development of apprenticeship standards has been updated.

2. As part of national apprenticeship week, the Government has announced:

  • From September 2015 there will be nine new degree apprenticeships, which will enable apprentices to achieve a full bachelor’s or master’s degree, whilst training on the job. As with other apprenticeships, the course fees will be shared between the Government and the employer. Details are set out in the Government’s press release here; and
  • 49 new apprenticeship standards will join the existing 80 trailblazer standards that have already been defined. For a full list of these standards see here.
