February 2013 news

februaryIt’s February, and while we have avoided another flurry of snow (at least, here in the South), the Government has another flurry of employment law reforms: this time it’s extra protection for political opinions, whistle-blowers, and employers (in respect of financial penalties) and ‘family friendly’ reforms. The Equality and Human Rights Commission has published two new documents concerning ‘religion or belief’ discrimination in the workplace and ACAS is consulting on a draft statutory code of practice on conducting settlement negotiations. We also update you on three cases dealing with protection for ex-workers who blow the whistle, cautionary advice in relation to imposing lesser disciplinary sanctions on appeal and imputing knowledge of disability.
