Gender equality – Help from the EHRC

pregnancy-discrim-250The Equality Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has launched a new Working Forward initiative to support pregnancy and maternity rights, asking employers to sign up to an EHRC pledge to make the best working environment they can for pregnant women and new mums, to include sharing knowledge, experience and good practice.

Major household names have already signed up to the initiative, including Barclays, Royal Mail and BT Group and these organisations and other members will help drive long-term positive change through actions such as nominating a gender equality champion at board level, training and supporting line managers, and promoting family friendly policies including advertising all jobs as open to flexible working where appropriate. These actions will help businesses begin to tackle the pressing challenges they face to reduce their pay gaps, and enable women to develop their careers within companies.  For further detail see here.
