Government reforms (1): National and voluntary living wages

minimum wage - purse with penny coinThe Government is set to miss its £9.00 an hour National Living Wage 2020 forecast because of Brexit, according to a report published by the Resolution Foundation thinktank (http://www.resolutionfoundation.org/). Instead, the thinktank estimates that Brexit will result in low-skilled workers losing 40p an hour in the next four years.

In the meantime the UK voluntary living wage rate is to rise by 20p to £8.45 an hour and to £9.75 an hour for London residents. The voluntary living wage is promoted by the Living Wage Foundation and is distinct from the statutory National Living Wage. Over 3,000 businesses have signed up to the scheme.
