The Government has published a Green Paper, Improving Lives, available here, which sets out a ten-year vision for reforming the relationship between work and health. Views are sought on how to encourage those with disabilities and long-term health problems to enter and remain in the workplace, how to tackle employer prejudice about long-term health issues and how to promote health and well-being in the workplace.
The current fit note will be re-examined, as overall it has not fulfilled the stated aim of encouraging people back to work sooner. The Government has indicated that it would like to reform statutory sick pay so as to better support phased returns to work. The consultation closes on 17 February 2017.
