What do we already know?
We know that Shared Parental Leave is coming into force on 1 December 2014 in respect of babies due on or after 5 April 2015. We set out our guide on the new right in our October Newsletter Government reforms (1): Family friend(lier) – shared parental leave and pay. At that point we only had the draft regulations to go on.
The final shared parental leave and pay regulations have now been published and will come into force on 1 December 2014. Helpfully, but as expected, there appear to be no differences between the draft and final versions. That means we don’t need to change the above guidance we gave you and you can answer employee questions with more certainty – although given the complexity of the scheme this may not always be easy!
