Happy New Year! Welcome to our January 2014 Newsletter and we hope you are all surviving the cold and managing to still maintain just one or two of your New Year’s resolutions! The Government is already busy putting some of its resolutions into practice: TUPE changes are in force from 31 January 2014 onwards, official TUPE guidance is published and increased penalties for National Minimum Wage evasion are on their way. The Government has also launched its awaited consultation on zero-hours contracts. Our case updates this month bring (i) guidance on redundancy and selection pools of one and (ii) when an employer can fairly dismiss an employee as a result of taking into account a final written warning.
