We’ve been asked by some clients to provide training on Employment Law basics for some of their new HR employees. Providing a training course for one or two individuals makes it rather expensive, so instead we are creating a two-part ‘open’ online training course.
Employment Law Basics; 5 hours over 2 online sessions (date TBA)
£250 + VAT per attendee. Course delivered by Luke and Anne-Marie.
Content of the training:
Day 1. Pre-employment employment law & the employment law basics during employment – Part 1
- The recruitment process – do’s and don’ts
- The contract – offer, acceptance, express and implied terms,
- When employment starts, withdrawing offers, cancelling contracts
- References, health questions and medicals
- Employment status – employees, workers, casuals, self-employed
- Part-time work, fixed-term contracts, agency employees
- Flexible working requests
- Dependant leave requests
- Parental bereavement leave
- Family leave – maternity, paternity, adoption, parental and shared parental leave
- Email/internet/social media abuse
Day 2. Employment law basics during employment Part 2
- Discrimination: direct, indirect, associative and perceptive
- Protected characteristics
- Harassment and bullying
- Absenteeism, poor performers and performance management
- Capability procedures (ill-health, performance)
- Stress, anxiety, depression
- Dealing with grievances
- Dismissing those with less than 2 years’ service
- Dealing with misconduct (in and out of work)
- ACAS Code of Practice on D&G
- Redundancy procedure and dismissals
- Fair dismissals – procedural fairness, substantive fairness
- Appeals
- Wrongful and Constructive dismissal
- The cost of getting it wrong, compensation levels
- Settlement Agreements
- Employment Tribunals and ACAS Early Conciliation
