Newsflash: Guidance on 1) data protection and 2) zero hours contracts

timetable for change1. Data protection – subject access requests

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has published a guide, available here, on how to disclose information safely by removing personal data before publishing.

The guide is relevant to employers who need to respond to subject access requests and/or freedom of information requests (if they are a public authority). It gives some examples of types of inappropriate disclosures of personal data that the ICO has seen and also covers other types of disclosure of which organisations should be aware and an overview of the legal requirements to remove personal data from information being disclosed.

2. Zero hours contracts

The Government (BIS) has published guidance on zero hours contracts, available here, aimed at employers. The guidance provides information on zero hours contracts and how they should be used, employment rights, appropriate use, inappropriate use, alternatives, best practice and exclusivity clauses.
