Our Partner Simon Martin is a specialist employment law solicitor who has a considerable band of keenly loyal fans amongst our employer clients as a result of his approach, his manner and what he is able to help them achieve.
The same can be said for many of the employee clients who he has supported over the years. We receive a lot of excellent feedback from employees and executives who Simon has been able to help, usually in terms of them negotiating to leave their employment.
Simon offers a wealth of experience and skill in all areas of employment law. Having trained in the City of London, he later moved to the South West, where he went onto be a Director in a multi-office regional practice and an expert adviser for EEF, before joining us in 2012.
Simon’s calm, wise and reassuring style of advice draws on his many years of experience, to which he applies a highly pragmatic approach. His clients appreciate his “real world advice”, as one recently described it. He takes a common sense, practical approach to the advice he provides, his first question to clients being “What do you want to achieve?”, and then does his level best to achieve that.
Simon is very used to advising and supporting both individuals and ‘household name’ employers. In recent years he acted for a company defending a multi-party discrimination claim over several years which culminated in a 40 day hearing. Simon’s client won. Yet he is equally effective and at home supporting a director or manager to negotiate a settlement agreement exit.
Simon enjoyed a brief but eye-opening early career as assistant manager of a greyhound track, before turning to the law. He has a degree in Modern History from Oxford University (which, following a further ceremony conducted entirely in Latin, he converted into an MA).
