Government has proposed new statutory rates for statutory sick pay and family leave pay and has announced national minimum wage increases from April 2026.

Increase to statutory rates:

The Government has set out its proposed new statutory rates for statutory sick pay and family leave pay to apply from 6 April 2026.

Statutory Sick Pay (SSP):

The rate of SSP will increase (from £118.75) to £123.25 per week.

Statutory maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental, parental bereavement, neonatal care pay and maternity allowance:

The weekly rate of the above payments will increase (from £187.18) to £194.32 per week.

Lower earnings limit:

The proposed increase to the weekly lower earnings limit required to qualify for these types of family leave will increase (from £125) to £129 per week.

National Minimum Wage increases for 2026

The Government announced the annual national minimum wage increases from 1 April 2026 as follows:

  • Age 21 and over: will rise from £12.21 to £12.71 per hour
  • Age 18 – 20: will rise from £10 to £10.85 per hour
  • Age 16 – 17 and apprentices: will rise from £7.55 to £8 per hour

The accommodation offset will rise from £10.66 to £11.10 per day.
