Vacancies at Menzies Law

Employment Lawyer, Bristol

  • Employee & employer client workload

  • Part-time/flexi-time/home-working options, employed or self employed

Menzies Law is a leading boutique employment law firm, based in Bristol.  We are a thriving and well-known specialist practice, consistently ranked high in the Legal 500 and Chambers for over a decade, and proud to have formerly been Legal 500’s ‘Employment Law Team of the Year (outside London)’. With outstanding client reviews on Review Solicitors and Google, we punch well above our weight, with a small but very high calibre team.  Over the years, several of our team have achieved judicial appointments.

What sets us apart from most other boutique firms is the breadth and quality of work we offer, guaranteeing a stimulating daily workload of employment matters.  We’re offering the chance for an experienced employment lawyer to really spread their wings and fulfil their potential.  We can offer a route to partnership for the right person and potentially equity.

We’d love to speak to experienced employment lawyers, with c. 8-15 years PQE, to join our professional and well-respected team.  Our firm’s workload consists of:

  • c. 75% employer/respondent and c. 25% employee/claimant
  • a really wide range of contentious and non-contentious matters
  • national, regional and local employers of all sizes and sectors
  • C-suite executives and senior managers seeking advice personally
  • delivery of quality, engaging management training (particularly important in 2025 to enable our clients to prepare for the Employment Rights Bill changes)
  • presenting at our twice-yearly client seminars on new legislation and relevant cases
  • writing blogs/content to support our marketing

Creating enduring relationships with our clients is central to our ethos, with everyone here focused on achieving a positive client experience.  We believe it is this that has kept so many clients with us long-term.  Our business support team are pivotal, as they are often a client’s very first contact with us.  Because of this, you’ll understand why you’ll need to be a real team-player to join us.

We are looking for professionals who’ve been well-trained in good firms with excellent  client care skills.  We’re after a fit to our culture of giving thoughtful, client-centred, practical and frank advice.  You will need an intuitive understanding of employer and employee client needs and an ability to get to grips quickly with a client’s attitude to risk. Over your career you will have developed a robust, pragmatic approach to ET litigation, always bearing in mind the bigger picture, to support and guide clients through the process. You’ll be comfortable helping to build legal knowledge in your clients and sharing your expertise and opinions at our events and in our management training work.  You will be keen to find and develop new client relationships too, to complement our existing client list.

Importantly, you’ll be eager to build your career and experience in a supportive, collegiate team where you can genuinely benefit from professional and personal development opportunities.  Over the years, we have developed team members by not only exposing them to a plethora of employment matters but also giving them the chance and support to qualify as mediators, hone their training delivery skills and become part-time fee-paid Employment Judges.  We’re keen therefore to mentor and support the development of a new colleague, led primarily by Luke Menzies.

This role could be part-time or flexi-time and can be mostly home-based.  We all work flexibly and are very understanding and accommodating of family and lifestyle requirements.

We would prefer to offer a salaried position (competitive salary, benefits package and bonus scheme) but may consider those who prefer self-employment (we have done this successfully in the past).

To summarise, we’d be keen to speak to credible employment lawyers who:

  • Seek a breadth of challenging employment work
  • Demonstrate the drive to develop professionally and personally through the strong support and opportunities we offer
  • Seek a relaxed and informal yet professional work culture
  • Can show how their client-focus and excellent client care skills have developed long-term, fruitful client relationships
