HR Consultancy & People Projects

HR experts who get the job done

Our work with multiple businesses gives us real insight into the pressures businesses and HR departments face.  HR is often working at (and sometimes beyond) its capacity.  Finding extra short-term or specialist resource when needed isn’t always possible or the right solution in the circumstances.  And some businesses have no HR professional in-house so sometimes find themselves without the specialist knowledge to shape and/or deliver critical people projects.

This is where our expert Associates come in.  They can support you with projects when you don’t have the resource available internally – or you require specialist skill or knowledge to manage a project.

Typically our Associates assist with time-consuming workplace investigations, provide workplace mediation to bring resolution to all sorts of workplace issues, support with specialist Pay & Reward work and deliver HR projects of all sorts – restructures & redundancy exercises, HR Audits, policy review and writing and much more.

Our Consultancy services offer an adaptable professional resource to help you to deliver, whatever the issue. Importantly we are able to draw on our employment law expertise when needed as well, combining the expertise of a seasoned HR professional with that of a senior employment lawyer.  It guarantees a seamless approach, whatever your project.

Below are details of some recent projects we’ve been involved in.   If you like the look of the work we do, we’d love to speak with you.

Closing a manufacturing site

A long-term client of ours needed to close an entire manufacturing site of c.130 staff.  Due to the significant restructure of another site our client lacked the internal resource to do both projects.  They asked Menzies Law to manage the closure and to source the HR expertise required to do so.

We engaged with one of our senior HR Associates with significant manufacturing and collective consultation experience.  We knew their expertise would give this client confidence that the project would be skillfully and sensitively handled.  Together we created a full project plan,  managing the process right through to the final closure of the site.  Our work included:

  • Writing full briefing documents and business rationale for closure announcement, full communications plan, and retention policy for phased closure
  • Managing the nomination process for all representatives
  • Designing and delivering training to all employee and management reps on the collective consultation process and their obligations
  • Running the end-to-end consultation process (collective and individual)
  • Legal advice on possible TUPE issues affecting the closure
  • Managing all outplacement, liaising with media, local employers and agencies such as Job Centre+, National Careers Service and Serco.
  • Coordinating job search solutions to equip affected employees with the skills to look for work

Pay Project for a charity

We were tasked with developing a cohesive, fair and equitable pay structure to help this ambitious charity grow.  Their goals included developing a long-term reward strategy and pay structures so they could maintain a positive market position and ensure an inclusive and engaged approach with their staff.

We recommended a more structured approach to their pay including job evaluation and pay framework(s) to both modernise and support their planned growth. Our project involved:

  • Assessing their job roles against our recommended job evaluation framework including a market analysis of salaries
  • A market analysis of their terms and benefits and advice on developing their Employer Value Proposition
  • Identifying and modelling options for a proposed pay structure and helping them implement their revised structure

Running a workplace investigation for a family-owned SME

An employee raised a serious complaint against the MD of this small business.  We recommended using an external professional to run the investigation ensuring both transparency and objectivity.

One of our very experienced HR Associates (who is also a qualified employment lawyer) ran and managed the investigation, interviewing all witnesses and writing a detailed report.  One of our employment lawyers then advised the client on the outcome of the report and the legal risks involved.

We worked with our client on a range of solutions which included delivering robust Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training to the Senior Management Team and ultimately managing the exit of one of the parties.
