Consultant Lawyer (Corporate & Commercial)
Garth Morton, provides corporate and commercial legal advice. He advises on, drafts and negotiates commercial contracts and has a broad range of experience working for clients on a myriad of contracts in many industries.
Garth gives corporate legal advice and drafting for shareholders. Shareholders’ agreements and articles of association, when carefully constructed, can allow shareholders to avoid, or resolve, conflicts within their business. In his many years of practice, he has seen the advantages of properly preparing these documents at the start of any business venture – and the perils of not doing so.
For anyone selling a business, their focus is on achieving the financial reward that all their years of hard work have made possible. A buyer wants to acquire the right business at the right price. Two documents, the share purchase agreement, with its warranties, and the disclosure letter, qualifying those warranties, are at the heart of the sale and purchase process. Garth works closely with accountancy professionals on these transaction documents to ensure his clients complete the deal, safely.
Garth’s first degree was in Genetics from Glasgow University. He then went on to study Law at King’s College London and then completed the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law, qualifying as a Barrister. He has extensive commercial experience, having worked for DAS, for commercial organizations, and within his own legal practice. He has advised on and negotiated contracts with businesses of all sizes from SMEs to well-known multinationals in a wide range of industries. When Garth advises clients he does so to help them achieve a commercially pragmatic solution rather than just giving legal advice.
Garth lives in Bristol with his wife and they are both kept very busy by their toddler!
