Retained EU (Revocation and Reform) Bill

The Retained EU (Revocation and Reform) Bill received royal assent on 29 June 29 2023, and much of the Act is now in force.

We updated you in our Newsletter 2023 Issue 2 (here) that this Act (which would have automatically abolished all ‘retained’ EU law at the end of this year) was amended so that all retained EU laws will continue to exist in the UK, unless they are expressly repealed. Therefore, in the short term, the Act does not make any express changes to key employment rights.

However, the Government is now free to consider areas where it wishes to reform employment law, and will be able to depart from EU law in those areas. For example, consultations have already taken place on proposed changes to TUPE and the Working Time Regulations (see here).
