Anne-Marie Boyle

Partner, Solicitor

Our Partner Anne-Marie offers a great depth and breadth of experience in employment law.  Applying a ‘can do’ attitude and commercial style when advising and supporting her clients, she prioritises the identification of her clients’ needs and aims and then tailors her focus and efforts accordingly, avoiding a ‘one size fits all’ approach.

Anne-Marie is highly valued by clients for her accessible, practical and very friendly style. Developing and maintaining highly valued client relationships are key for her.

She happily confesses to being a TUPE geek but has also developed specialisms in discrimination, equal pay and family-related law, collective and Industrial Relations issues and litigation.

Employment Tribunal litigation has always been at the heart of her career. When advising employer clients she always has an eye on ‘how would this look in front a Tribunal?’  Despite her interest in litigation, she is equally focused on helping employers to avoid litigation or to get them out of proceedings as quickly as possible, by exploiting weakness in the opposition’s case.

Anne-Marie has a keen interest and expertise in the employment law aspects of menopause in the workplace.   She has written a series of blogs, appeared several times as a panel member for menopause in the workplace seminars, written and advised on menopause policies for employers and raised awareness of the legal risks on claims or disputes involving women where menopause symptoms could influence the case. She has also contributed to an article in The Guardian, and has provided input to the Employment Lawyers Association for the government consultation on menopause in the workplace.

Whilst she mainly advises HR teams, Anne-Marie also advises senior executives and partners in their disputes.  And as you would expect from someone whose parents were both teachers, Anne-Marie is a skilled presenter and trainer and has devised many bespoke training events for HR teams, managers and Boards of large businesses.

Anne-Marie was appointed as a part-time Employment Tribunal Judge in 2021 and has been sitting on a variety of employment cases since her appointment.   Additionally she is a trained mediator, specialising in employment disputes – both within the workplace setting and also those that have become Employment Tribunal claims or are threatening to go that way.

During her career Anne-Marie has advised clients in most sectors but has particular specialisms in shipping/maritime, logistics, facilities management, outsourcing and retail manufacturing.   She qualified in 1994 at the highly rated trade union firm Russell Jones and Walker (now Slater + Gordon), before moving to Osborne Clarke, where she was a partner for 4 years.  She then spent 5 years at another leading South West specialist employment law firm before joining us.
