We updated you in our Newsletter 2023 Issue 1 (here) that the Government was backing several Private Members’ Bills in respect of family-friendly and flexible working rights, which we summarised here.   There is now good news to impart in that these Bills have all now received royal assent and become the following Acts:

  • Neonatal Care (Leave and Pay) Act 2023 – the Government has indicated that the entitlements are expected to be delivered in April 2025.
  • Carer’s Leave Act 2023 – this is likely to come into effect on or after April 2024.
  • Protection from Redundancy (Pregnancy and Family Leave) Act 2023 – The Act came into force on 24 July 2023 but new regulations are needed before employers are expected to comply with it, and this timing is currently unknown.
  • Employment Relations (Flexible Working) Act 2023 – the Government has suggested this will come into effect approximately a year from now, to give employers time to prepare for the changes.
