Government reforms (3): Increase to Statutory rates and National Minimum Wage

INCREASE TO STATUTORY RATES & NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE

The usual annual increase in the national minimum wage, statutory payments and Tribunal awards have been announced.

National Minimum & Living Wage

The hourly rates applicable from 1 April 2023 will be:

The Government intends for the NLW (which currently applies to workers aged 23 and over) to apply to workers aged 21 and over from 2024.

Statutory Maternity and Parental Pay

With effect from 3 April 2023, the weekly rate of statutory maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental and parental bereavement pay will increase from £156.66 to £172.48 per week.

Statutory Sick Pay

With effect from 6 April 2023, the rate of statutory sick pay will increase from £99.35 to £109.40 per week.

Lower earnings limit

The amount of the weekly lower earnings limit that applies to National Insurance contributions (below which employees are not entitled to SMP, SPP, SAP, SSPP and SSP) is remaining at £123.
