The CIPD has issued new guidance on supporting and managing employees with terminal illness (see here).

The guidance provides assistance on how to create an inclusive and supportive culture in the workplace for those effected by terminal illness. It suggests that to guard against isolating employees (due to the stigma often attached to serious illness) employers should find ways to develop a workplace culture that is inclusive and supportive, where individuals feel comfortable and safe to talk about such topics and the impact they are having on them and their family.

Recommendations include access to well-being support (such as the provision of an employee assistance provider and counselling) and occupational health services, flexibility when managing absences, financial support and training and guidance for line managers who have someone affected by these issues.
